I have lived in Lake County for 23 years and find that I get into a mundane routine of how I plan my activities.  I have fallen in love with lake county all over again since doing some web surfing.  I have to say not more mountain for me!  It seems like I and my friends are staying a little closer to home for entertainment

The Lake County Discovery Museum is located in Lakewood Forest Preserve in southwest Lake County.

Fall has arrived here in Lake County and with its beautiful color changes also comes flu season. Yech
According to Flu.gov,  Flu refers to illnesses caused by a number of different influenza viruses. Flu can cause a range of symptoms and effects, from mild to lethal.
Two strains of flu, seasonal flu and the H1N1 (Swine) flu, are currently circulating in the United States. A third, highly lethal H5N1 (Bird) flu is being closely tracked overseas.
Most healthy people recover from the flu without problems, but certain people are at high risk for serious complications.

Who Let The Dogs Out? (Woof Woof!)

This is great advise for home sellers.....

Via Gabrielle (Kamahele) Rhind (Tierra Antigua Realty, Tucson AZ Real Estate Agent):

Dogs.  You either love them ... or not. 

When you are selling your home - you don't want to lose a potential Buyer - or even risk that a Realtor won't show the home because they or their clients are afraid of dogs, have aversions to them, don't like the way they shed, etc.

Here are a few things "not to do" if you own a dog:

Don't ask your Realtor to add "Dog Friendly" to the MLS description.  To some Real estate agents, that translates to, "Don't show this home." No one wants to deal with a dog they don't know, nor do they want to control the dog; and buyers are afraid that the dog will bite because they remember the last article in the paper they read: "pit bull mauls child" even though the family reports the dog never harmed anyone.  Also, as cute as your dog is, do not add photos of the dog to the MLS listing. 

Don't assume your home "doesn't smell like dog".  If you're a dog owner, go with knowing that there are dog odors even if you can't smell anything. It happens - people get used to smells and often, don't even know "they" smell. Clean your home - everyday! Place dog toys, crates, pillows, etc., outside away from view; vacuum daily and leave apple cider or lavender smelling scents out that absorb odors.

Don't forget the backyard.  Nothing discourages potential buyer faster than stepping in dog poop or seeing a backyard laced with droppings. Clean up the back yard everyday and make sure the grass is trimmed back so people can see what they are stepping on.


Don't opt to be home during property showings.  Legally, you have to disclose there is a dog in the home.  You'll get calls from agents that come right out and ask, "What about the dog - my clients don't like dogs?"  So, you decide to just stay home during the showing to help out.  DON'T.  If you are able to stay home, take your dog for a walk during the showing.  Staying home is a sure way for Buyers to rush through your home and make them feel awkward about looking through your closets, etc.

Don't leave your dog running free if you are at work all day.  I've had this happen and the Buyers wouldn't set one foot in the house.  Unless you can come home and quickly remove or contain your dog, it's better to ask a neighbor to dog sit, crate your dog, etc. 

Here's hoping these few tips will help successfully show and sell your home!

Sometimes Simple is Just Too Simple

I am relatively new to social media and blogging. The more experienced would refer to me as a newbie.  Mostly, I want my Blog to not only be about homes currently on the market in Lake county, IL. I want it to be about the area, local events, local businesses and just plain old why living in Lake County is the best.  Also how to you can simplify your life and save some money.

 The goal of my local blog is to become the respected (and read often) expert on this area for all things real estate, whether you are planing to move now, in the next ten years or just needs to know what your home is worth. Or maybe you are just curious what the neighbors house is selling for.

So why would you care that I was channel surfing the other night? 

Let me explain. My Blog is a work in progress and I needed a break from thinking about it, so when I ran across this skit from Mad TV. It hit me, why not keep it simple, some would refer to it as the KISS principal. (keep it simple stup..,, I  much prefer the word silly instead of the other word commonly used). I found the video on YouTube and want to share it with you.  While the video is about weight loss, it inspired me to come up with one my categories for my blog.  I hope you enjoy it.

I still laugh even seeing it again.  My new category will be on  Spend less, Save more.  I am also trying to adopt that in more personal life. (Also trying the Eat Less, Move More).

I sure would love suggestions of  what you would like to know more about.
